Buffing An Aluminum Wheel
Buffing An Aluminum Wheel

(1)
The wheel in this example did not need sanded, so we start with Tripoli Compound and a 6" Yellow Airway buffing pad mounted on a 2500 rpm 3/8 drill with Flathead adaptor. Turn the drill on and lock the trigger, and grind the pad into the compound bar. |
(2)
Start buffing in the direction of pad rotation, moving slowly until the pad needs dressed with compound again. Once the buff is not producing a shine anymore, load more compound on the pad. Load small amounts frequently instead of larger amounts, as this will keep the pad cleaner. |
(3)
Continue buffing in direction of pad rotation... |
(4)
Continue... |
(5)
Now move back to the starting point, parallel with the first pass that was made, still buffing with pad rotation. |
(6)
Continue... |
(7)
Keep buffing, in direction of pad rotation and parallel with your other passes. |
(8)
This is the last pass in parallel with the first pass made. |

(9)
Now go back and touch up needed areas, still in direction of pad rotation . |
(10)
The Tripoli Compound step is now finished. |
(11)
Next, move on to the high shine step 2. Here we have a application rag, our drill, a Medium 6" Airway on a Flathead adaptor, and Super Shine Aluminum Polish. |
(12)
Shake bottle well, and apply polish to rag and wipe on wheel. Wipe in parallel with our step 1 buffing lines. |
(13)
Start buffing polish off clean, again in direction of pad rotation. |
(14)
Continue buffing in pad rotation... |
(15)
Continue buffing in parallel with first pass... |
(16)
